Be it a comfort, nostalgia or simply a reminder of how meaningful and simple music can be, folk and Americana born in Texas have always held a place in my heart, particularly when the songs come from a musician like David Ramirez (@ramirezdavid). Currently a resident of Austin, Ramirez has spent years honing his acoustic rhythms, inspired lyricism and dynamic vocals — as honeyed as they are gritty and searching. With notes taken from the likes of Ryan Adams, he spins tales that capture love and loss without making them heavy-handed or saccharine. His focus is, first and foremost, on storytelling.

Ramirez’s newest song follows him through the seeds of self-doubt and loneliness that often take root during constant touring. A gentle, affecting plea for connection, the video for “Stick Around” is shot in a single take, showcasing the country in central Texas. The song itself is an unadorned, beautiful blend of piano, guitar, and pedal steel, moving with its simplicity and heartfelt melodies. At only 29, Ramirez clearly writes music with an old soul.

“Stick Around” and other new tracks will be available on David Ramirez’s new album Apologies out August 28th. Also, be sure to check his site for touring updates. Having seen his last show in Brooklyn, I highly recommend the experience.
