Study Finds Gamers Have Hyperactive Brains, But It’s Not Entirely A Good Thing

Some of these connections will have positive effects, such as a boost in cognitive performance, but several other connections in brain regions might pose risks of limiting impulse control, commonly found in people with Down syndrome or autism.

“These findings may represent a training effect of extended game play and suggest a risk or predisposition in game players for over-connectivity of the default mode and executive control networks that may relate to psychiatric comorbidity.”

It’s only fair to note that the researchers have only come to these conclusions after scanning the brains of 78 teenage boys diagnosed with Internet gaming disorder, and 73 boys without the disorder.

However, these finding are scary enough to pop the questions: Is gaming really worth taking the risk?
