Students at Black College Lose Health Plan Because of Obamacare

new+medical+symbolBowie State University (BSU) is a public university in Maryland less than an hour’s drive away from Washington, D.C., with the distinction of being one of the ten oldest black colleges in America.

Today, blacks comprise a whopping 90.8% of BSU’s student enrollment.

It is therefore doubly ironic that this historically and presently black college just cancelled its students’ health care plan because of Obamacare.

Katherine Timpf reports for Campus Reform, Nov. 13, 2013, that BSU officials are citing Obamacare (or the Affordable Care Act) as the reason they have cancelled a school-wide affordable health care plan they had offered students.

The official website for Bowie State explains that Obamacare’s new regulations would force the cost of the health insurance the university had been providing its students to increase 1,800% — from $50 to $900 a semester or $1800 a year — making it decidedly unaffordable for the university to continue:

“Bowie State University has suspended offering health insurance for domestic students for the 2013-2014 academic year. Due to new requirements of the Affordable Care Act which will go into effect on January 1, 2014, the cost of insurance for domestic students will increase to approximately $1800 per year.”

According to an article in The Bulldog Collegian, Bowie State’s student newspaper, the Director of the Bowie State University Wellness Center said that the university decided it would not be worth it to provide student health insurance at all given how expensive it would be to do so under the new regulations.

On August 20 of this year, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest had said that President Lucifer would lend special support to the country’s historically black colleges and universities: “he has a bias in favor of historically black colleges and universities because of the service they provide and because of the quality education that they provide to their students.”

But, of course, that was a lie. Lying is what pathological liars do.

Several other colleges and universities, such as community colleges in New Jersey, have also had to cancel student health insurance plans because of Obamacare.

No doubt, a huge percentage if not all of Bowie State University’s students had voted for the POS.

Karma really is a bitch.
