Smokey J’s on 3015 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705 is where you can find awesome BBQ and of course the FRITO PIE!!! We stopped in here on a whim after visiting the chiropractor for serving related injuries. First of all if you are looking for a full service restaurant this is not it! You order from a menu on the wall and cashier who will bring your food out to you if seated at one of the few picnic style benches in the restaurant or outside. It’s the kind of place that lets the food speak for itself, no frills, just room for a few tables, plenty of room of messy, finger licking, BBQ goodness!

This my friends is a frito pie, what you ask is that??? It’s a pile of fritos covered with chili, cheese, sour cream, onions, and jalepenos. Being the demure lady I am, I obvi had to get mine with brisket, because guess what for 2 dollars you can add any meat they have at the time!!!!

Blair got the 2 way where you get to pick two meats and two sides (he got hot links and wet pulled pork). We (I mean he) got potato salad and cast iron skillet cornbread with honey butter. Honey butter, I didn’t know butter could get better!!!
So in conclusion, Smokey J’s is a magical BBQ paradise that I will be frequenting while wearing sweatpants with an elastic band. Also did I mention that you can buy their Mild, Med, or Spicy BBQ sauce by the jug, and yes you will want to! Smokey J’s thanks for bringing awesome BBQ to Berkeley!
