I’ve been looking for a cover treatment for my student’s art journals, and think this is pretty good solution. One container of foam stick-on letters, a few tubes of black and gold paint and you’re good to go.1. I bought foam letters like the ones shown HERE. Students peeled off the paper backing and stuck them to their cover as desired. Some spelled out their names, some just made up words. The point is to fill the cover with shapes. The sticky backs are such a help so no glue is needed.
2. Black acrylic paint was brushed over the cover, spreading as much as possible to keep the paint from becoming too thick and making the cover curl. They were allowed to dry for at least 24 hours.
3. Gold metallic craft paint was brushed on (with a very dry brush) to highlight the shapes. A paper sealer such as Mod Podge may be added on at the end to seal the paint.
