Stephen Colbert scoops up Sarah Palin Domain

Time magazine wrote about Stephen Colbert from Comedy Central registering TheSarahPalinChannel.com, the channel will parody the new SarahPalinChannel.com. The Sarah Palin channel will cost you $9.95/month or $99.95 for a one year subscription, the parody site of course will be free.

Dan Kemey of Time Magazine wrote:

Two competing Sarah Palin websites have launched in recent days. The first is called “Sarah Palin Channel,” and it offers subscribers a 24-hour newsfeed of pure, unmediated Palin for $99.95 a year. The second is called “The Sarah Palin Channel” (emphasis ours), and it promises to be “The only Sarah Palin Channel on the internet with a definite article in the address!” (emphasis theirs).

The website also happens to be a parody concocted by Stephen Colbert, who announced on Tuesday night’s episode of the Colbert Report that he had exclusive rights to TheSarahPalinChannel.com. Unlike its rival, the Colbert version will offer all of its content free of charge.

Sarah Buhr of TechCrunch did an article yesterday on Cable TV going away with the title “I want my Internet TV.” They gave mention to the new Palin channel in the opening. They went on to quote cable tv statistics.

From the article:

Research firm GfK says 19% of American households currently live without cable. According to Bloomberg, about 28.7 million Americans currently subscribe to HBO. More than 30 million of those of us in the U.S. have a Netflix account.

Netflix, by the way, accounts for about a third of Internet traffic on any given evening in North America.

Now throw Hulu and Amazon Prime Instant Video in the mix. Nielsen research carves out about 18% of Americans as Hulu subscribers and 13% viewership on Amazon Prime.
