St. Paul's Grand Avenue... Small Town Feel in the Big City

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

St. Paul's Grand Avenue is a charming tree-lined stretch of about 25 blocks beloved by locals and visitors alike. Lined with quaint shops, restaurants and historic homes this street is what makes St. Paul feel like a walkable small-town community rather than a big city.

It has a relaxed, creative spirit that kicks off summer with the largest one-day festival in the Midwest the first Sunday in June, Grand Old Day... which happens to be today! I have buyers who submitted an offer on a home just a block off Grand late yesterday... we were informed there was no way the sellers would be able to get together with their agent during the day today because of all the Grand activity!

The main commercial strip is between Dale and Lexington. I still remember stopping at a phone booth near the condos in the photo above at Dale and Grand over 20 years ago. We had driven the whole length of Grand looking for the family-owned Mexican restaurant, La Cucaracha to no avail. When I called to ask where they were located and told them where I was they told me to turn around and look... there it was, just around the corner on Dale!

With unique ethnic restaurants from the Mediterranean Barbary Fig and Tavern on Grand featuring Minnesota walleye on one end to the Tibetan Everest on Grand and the original Green Mill Pizza past Lexington on the other end, you can stroll the length and be delighted with one surprise after another.  I love picking up a cone of homemade ice cream at Grand Ole Creamery and strolling the residential streets lined with historic homes... in the quiet neighborhood to the south, or along opulent Summit Avenue just a block north where you can walk by the Governor's Mansion at 1006 Summit.

See Grand Avenue homes for sale to see what is available if this sounds like a neighborhood where you would like to live... then give me a call or send a text to 612-419-0560.
