I don't have much time left with the borrowed Vita, so I have a couple of games that I want to talk about. Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is the first title that I have put an extended amount of time with, and so far, I am pleased with how good it is. Sigma Plus is a port of Sigma, which was a port of Ninja Gaiden Black. If you haven't played this game yet, this will most likely be your last chance to play it.
Presentation/Story:Ninja Gaiden has always looked good, even on the original Xbox, and its no different for the Vita. This new port also boasts an improved and more stable framerate, which is a plus,(no pun intended) since the action is so fast-paced and quick. The environments, on the other hand, are pretty lackluster. The dull colors that go with the locales, don't help out much either. Ryu's animations appear more fluid and life-like more than ever, bringing that character more to life. The audio sounds great in the game, both the soundtrack and voice work is stellar. If you've played the game before, you know exactly what the story entails. The game's narrative hasn't changed at all. I love the presentation of Ninja Gaiden, it continues the high production values that go into each release of the franchise.
Core Gameplay:Brutal is a word that you will always here regarding gameplay in Ninja Gaiden, it has always been tough. You will die a lot in the game if you're not good, like myself. The combat actually feels faster, so if you're use to the console version, you might take a little getting use too. Ryu will be combating evil soldiers and satanic creatures, each giving you new opportunities to fully utilize your deep arsenal. It gets intense, don't expect a cakewalk, it will be advantageous of you to learn most of the combos. You can also play as the busty Rachel, if you can get by her obvious sexuality, she is a pretty cool character. She is built like a tank, with her trusty hammer which packs a strong punch. Overall, it creates a nice change of pace from nimble Ryu.
Final Thoughts:There isn't much else to say at this point, its another port thats done very well. Ryu makes his first appearance on the Vita, and I'm sure it won't be his last. For a game that made its first appearance in 2004, it still feels fresh and fun.
