Have you heard of “ipe” wood, the walnut flooring material from Brazil that is one of the densest hardwoods available today? Well it’s certainly been making a huge splash in contemporary bathroom design. “But wait,” you’re thinking: “Wood flooring in a bathroom? That sounds like a terrible idea!” And typically, you’d be right. But the density of ipe wood is key: it’s so dense it sinks in water. This same density makes the wood all but mold-proof, warp-proof, fire-resistant, and really, really strong. It’s also slip-proof, making it truly the world’s most perfect bathroom flooring material for stunning, natural, and modern interiors. Check out the article at the link in the title to see some amazing images of ipe wood in action!

2. A Beautiful Cottage Bathroom Makeover

Kevin and Layla Palmer have been working hard on their cottage bathroom, and the results are simply beautiful! Not that the bathroom was a mess or anything prior to the renovation; it looked great then, too. But now you can see how a little hard work and inspiration can have a HUGE payoff! We love the blue notes and the generally bright, cheery new nature of the bathroom. What do you think? What would you change, if you could?

3. What the Bathroom Can Tell Caregivers About Your Health

Caregivers need to keep tabs on the people they’re fired to care for, of course, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a little awkward to check in with patients about their bathroom habits. Not to mention, difficult to prove: you’re just taking a patient’s word, which is not always true, and it’s not like you can just follow them into the bathroom every time they have to go. It’s important to respect someone’s privacy in their home, even as you monitor their health.

To solve this problem, The company Lively has developed a tracking system for any home that monitors how often bathroom doors open and close, how many times per day the medicine cabinet is accessed, how many times the toilet is flushed (and, we imagine, how often the faucet is turned on or off), and more. You can learn all about this exciting health-monitoring technology by listening to the podcast embedded in the article above!

4. SquidSoap Teaches Proper Hand Washing in a Fun New Way

One thing we are really passionate about here at Tradewinds Imports is proper hand washing technique. The problem is, too few people even bother washing their hands at all – let alone doing it right – after every flush. And when it’s kids neglecting their handwashing, all sorts of health and hygiene concerns come up. Luckily, a new product called SquidSoap is poised to help parents tackle the problem of getting kids to wash their hands. We wrote an article all about it, and you should to! The soap is a wonderful way to keep your children having fun and staying healthy all at once!

5. Chef Bobby Flay’s Sweet Bathroom Digs

Chef Bobby Flay, known for his flashy style in the kitchen, is apparently also quite flashy in how he decorates his home. Check out his amazingly open bathroom, complete with a waterfall faucet and some cool Moroccan tile. We don’t have much more to say about it other than it’s gorgeous and well worth taking a look over on COCOCOZY!

Well, that’s all for now. We hope you had a lovely Independence Day, and we’ll see you again this time next week!

The Weekly Round Up is curated by . He is not a celebrity chef, but he does like remodeling bathrooms. He is definitely going to buy a bunch of SquidSoap and put it right on his wall-hung vanity countertop.
