Spur of the Moment Memories: People Skills

By Shawnaschuh

Spur of the Moment Memories: People SkillsIt was perfect weather for the zoo, not to hot, not to cloudy– an 11 year old boy whom I love and a wonderful husband were both by my side as we entered the main gates at the Oregon Zoo – excitement mounting as we rushed over to the first habitat – and the mountain goat that lives there.

We saw all the wild animals, birds, bats, elephants and two giraffes (a favorite of mine).

My nephew, the reason we went to the zoo, loves animals and especially birds – so when the zookeepers brought out the falcon and owls – it was a wow afternoon.

When was the last time you went to the zoo? When was the last time you read about animals, other cultures, habitats and breeding habits? Okay, don’t answer that last one…

It was a spur of the moment decision for us – we had work to do of course however it was a Monday in August – end of summer time with a nephew we don’t see often enough and an afternoon to spend – learning, being together and marveling at all the thought that went into the lands, designs, living and playing of the animals –

Something I noticed – and it’s been awhile since I was at the zoo – was how many toys were in the habitats – balls, and ropes and actual colored kids toys – as well as big cylinders of brushes – like they have in car washes that take off the dirt on the outside of your vehicles – the larger animals had these big brushes in places to rub up against when they had an inkling or an itch –

It occurred to me that the zoo is evolving as we all are – making things better, watching and listening more and that made me glad.

I’m so thankful we went – I’m so thankful there are people who care about these animals – I’m so thankful for this memory.

What are some spur of the moment memories of yours? And how do you continue to make them? Summer is almost over – how can you squeeze in something memorable this week?

Remember you create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!

Blessings, Shawna
