In New York City there is this teeny-tiny window of spring weather before it gets super hot and sticky. Clothing-wise, it's the time of year when we can finally kick off our winter boots. However, it's still too early to start wearing sandals. Most of us haven't even gotten our pedicures yet. Despite this season being super short, there are still some key spring shoes styles that are important to have in the closet.

#1- Ballerina Flats

What I love about spring weather is being able to slip on my shoes and go. I don't need to worry about socks and my feet feel so free. During the spring season, ballerina flats are my go-to shoe style. As you know, I LOVE my Sabrinas' London flats. Another popular style with my clients is Sam Edelman's Ruby flat. This spring shoe is not only comfortable but the dressier appearance makes it a good work to weekend style. Plus, the the oatmeal suede is just gorgeous and very rich looking for the affordable price. No matter which ballerina flat style you choose, it's a smart style to own for spring.

I styled the flats above with a pair of navy cropped pants from Theory, a breton from Boden that I layered under a Ted Baker cardigan in ivory. Finishing the outfit, I added a bright pink scarf from La Fiorentina, soft blue bag from Sole Society and simple gold hoops from Nordstrom.

#2- Spring booties

Another style to consider is the peep toe bootie/sandal style with minimal foot exposure. These are also the type of spring shoes that can easily be worn into the hotter days of summer. This particular pair of peep toe booties, also by Sam Edelman, have become another favorite with my clients this season. The cognac shade is incredibly versatile, and even look good worn with black, they're comfortable and work with everything, from dresses to jeans.

#3- Slip-on Sneakers

Continuing with the theme of being able to slip-on and go, slip-on sneakers. They are perfect for super casual days that aren't warm enough for easy-on sandals or times when you want a little more support than a pair of flip flops can offer. Last year, these Frye slip-ons were so incredibly popular with clients and this season they are back. If you want incredible comfort without the clunkiness of a pair of sneakers this is these are the spring shoes to check out.

#4- Loafers

Last year, all of my clients bought the silver metallic Pinch loafers from Cole Haan. I loved them so much, but missed the boat (because I am always shopping for clients and never for myself) that I tracked them down on Ebay in my size. I never considered myself much of a loafer fan, but was finding myself drawn to this sturdier style in place of my trusted ballerinas. Sadly, Cole Haan isn't running their classic loafer in metallic this season, but I did find these hot pink loafers from Sam Edelman that come in a variety of colors. Typically, I find that interesting colors up the cool-factor of this classic and more traditional shoe style.

#5- Sneakers

Back in the 90's, I owned a pair of classic Adidas shell toe sneakers. You would laugh if I told you how I wore them with the rest of grunge look. Much to my chagrin, they are back. I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. The 90's and classic sneakers have made a comeback. Thanks, cyclical nature of trends, I feel so old.

As you prepare your wardrobe for the spring weather, I hope these spring shoes suggestions give you some ideas of what you might need to purchase for your wardrobe.
