SOM TAM -  A traditional Thai raw papaya salad

SOM TAMA traditional Thai raw papaya salad.
Serves: 1

S. No. Ingredients Quantity

1 Garlic clove 2 no.

2 Bird Chilies whole 1 no.

3 Long Beans, 2 inch long 3 no.

4 Cherry tomato 5 no.

5 Raw papaya ½ cup

6 Peanuts 1 tbsp.

7 Dressing 2 tbsp.

8 Nampla ½ tsp

9 Lime Juice ½ tsp.


Ingredients (Dressing) Quantity

10 Crushed jaggery 1 tbsp.

11 Nampla 1 tsp.

12 Crushed red Chilies a pinch


METHOD:
  • Remove skin & Peel papaya using a Thai peel & Keep to chill.
  • Take garlic and bird’s eye chilies and pound with light hands in a mortar pestle.
  • Incorporate long beans, cherry tomatoes & peeled papaya to the chilly garlic mixture. Pound once again with very light hand.
  • Add dressing, nampla and lime juice and mix well.
  • Add crushed peanuts & toss lightly.
  • Serve garnished with peanut powder.

DRESSING:
  • Heat jaggery & nampla till completely blended.
  • Strain the mixture.
  • Add crushed red chilies.
  • Cool & use.
