April 2016

In March 2015, Swiss explorers Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg began their attempt to circumnavigate the globe with the Solar Impulse 2, departing from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.  They progressed as far as Hawaii before overheating of the plane’s batteries necessitated repairs which consumed the remainder of the suitable flight window.   This April the effort was resumed with Leg 9 and, after a 62 hour flight, Solar Impulse 2 touched down in California at midnight on April 30.  This is the second aircraft, completed in 2014 and named Solar Impulse 2, and carries more solar cells and more powerful motors, among other improvements.  Nikon D500 w/18-200mm, processed with Aperture and Panorama Stitcher.
