Sleep, Part 2

By Specialneedmom2 @specialneedmom2

The other day I crawled home from work, exhausted with a bad cold.  We made it through a dinner of frozen lasagne (which only required me to get off the sofa twice).  After dinner Hubby and I vetoed giving the kids baths, and instead threw on a couple emergency Disney movies because 4:30 p.m. is far too early to put anyone to bed, parents excepted.

At 5:00 pm I looked at the clock longingly, thinking if only I could make it to 6:00 pm, then – thank God – I can put the kids to bed.

I sat through Little Miss Adorable’s movie choice of Cinderella sleeping with my eyes open, completely unfazed by the screeching of singing mice.  A dream is a wish, your heart makes…

Hubby put the grumpy Baby Dunk to bed during the movie while I hung out with the two big kids waiting for Cinderella to live happily ever after so I could finally put the kids to bed and live happily ever after myself.

Soon, I got my wish.  Cinderella over, kids tucked in bed and falling asleep themselves, I staggered to my own bed.  Hubby and Baby Dunk are already asleep in the bed.  I tiptoed in and set the alarm.

Who would have thought the tiny buttons on top of an alarm clock could make so much noise?  No, I didn’t set off the alarm.  The buttons made a tiny click, barely audible to the human ear.  The alarm clock is across the room from the bed, a deliberate plan to encourage me to drag my tired butt out of bed in the morning.  The click should be impossible to hear from across the room.

Nope.  Baby Dunk heard it.  He woke up, screaming.

Hubby, the master of getting Baby Dunk to fall asleep, shooed me out of the room.

I thought maybe I can write a quick post for my blog while Baby Dunk falls asleep.  I checked my blog to see what’s posted (I lose track of these things, you know.)

And there it is – a whole post already talking about sleep.  And my lack of it.  And the really sad part is, I have a whole bunch of posts about not sleeping.  I think it’s due to something called Parenthood.  But I’m to tired to remember.  You can check them out here.

And while you’re at it, can you please give me some advice on sleeping in the same dwelling as young kids?
