Six At Home Remedies for Hay Fever
My eyes, my eyes!! I thought I had escaped hay fever this year but boy was I wrong :-(
This past week we have had a very high pollen count, which is not good for those of us with allergies, so I thought I would compile a list of remedies which you can make yourself a home, to alleviate some of the symptoms.

1. Eat Local Honey

Everyone always says to eat local honey but I never thought it would actually work. So after a bit of research I found out that local honey contains a small amount of the pollen that is floating around in the air. Therefore if you eat the honey over a period of time, your body will become immune to the local pollen. Of course there is very little scientific evididence to support this, but atleast it tastes good!

2. Vaseline In The Nostrils

This method will cause any pollen and irritants to get stuck in the vaseline, away from the sinuses which is where they usual like to play the irritation game. Take that pollen! You lose.

3. Nettle Tea

Nettle enhances the bodies defence mechanism and reduces symptoms caused by your bodies natural immune response, e.g runny nose, sneezing, etc. Sip nettle tea with a spoon of that local honey in it, for a tasty hay fever treat :-)

4. Vitamin C

Viamin C is good because it not only supports the immune system but helps to defend against the nasty symptoms of hay fever. You can take vitamin C in supplement form, or by consuming tasty things like oranges, bell peppers, strawberries, kale, and kiwis.

5. Chamomile

Cold chamomile tea bags placed over the eyes does wonders if you are experiencing a particularly itchy, red or sore hay fever reaction. It can also be bought as an essential oil, which you can use for a relaxing steam treatment. Just put a few drops into a bowl of boiling water, sit with your head over the bowl and cover yourself with a towel. This will help alleviate symptoms, and is also great for your skin!

6. Yogurt

I was very surprised to find out that a pro biotic yogurt eaten cold or at room temperature can reduce the incidence of hay fever attacks. Just by eating a six ounce serving, the bacteria in the yogurt can help to support the immune and digestive system whilst relieving allergies, especially those caused by grass pollen.
I hope this helps! Now, lets get on and enjoy the summer :-)
