Sikkim Tourism If you are feeling tired with the scorching heat and the congested city life style of India, Sikkim is the perfect place for you to get yourself rejuvenated. This north eastern state of the country provides a clean environment with a ban plastic bags and the fresh air of the mountain region. Gangtok


The place provides various tourist attractions including trek to Khangchendzonga. Other popular tourist attractions are Labrang Monastery and Rumtek Monastery. Besides this, Gangtok offers a variety of flora and fauna and avifauna at the Deer Park, Himalayan Zoological Park and Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden. You can also rest your tiring feet at M.G Marg, after visiting the various places.
The place is the largest city in Sikkim and also the capital of the state, also known as the land of monasteries. In its early days, Gangtok took an important place as a trade center between Tibet and the British Raj. However, under the British rule, the place was made the capital of Sikkim. the place signifies as a chief Buddhist pilgrimage destination as the place features Enchey Monastery. This particular monastery has a religious importance and through time, has gained a prominent place among the Buddhist disciples.

Borong

It is a renowned village located near Ravangla, facing towards the scenic snow covered mountains. You can reach the place through the adventurous Maenam trek and chiefly known for its hot springs of ‘Borong Tsachu’. This trekking route commences from Namchi or Damthang and ends at tendong. The trek route is further carried till Tashidang, where it is finally terminated. The hot springs of Borong features winter spas. These springs contains sulphurous, and are claimed to contain medicinal properties that can cure various skin diseases and other illness linked with joints, bones and muscles.

Tsomgo Lake

The lake is situated at a distance of 35 km from the city of Gangtok-Nathula highway. The crystal clear water of this lake has been accumulated from the melting snow of the mountains located close by. Tourists are required to get an Inner Line Permit to visit this lake. The permit can be attained from the Police through the travel agents or tourism department. During the winter season, the entire lake gets frozen so the best time to visit Tsomgo Lake is from March to late May and October to mid December. Weather Condition

The climate of Sikkim is pleasant throughout the year. The place enjoys the five seasons of summer, winter, monsoon, autumn and spring. The state features varied altitudes, so different regions experiences different climate conditions including tropical, temperate and frigid climate. During the summer the maximum temperature is around 28 degree Celsius. Tourists usually visit this place at this time to escape from the scorching heat of other Indian regions. The major regions of the state is dominated by temperate climate, here temperature rarely rises above 28 degree Celsius and drops below 0 degree Celsius in winters. Monsoon starts from late June to early September. During this season, the region experiences landslide due to continuous rainfall. Autumn arrives from September to October offering a nice time to visit this place. Though the temperature remains stable throughout the year, the best time to visit is during March to June and September to December.

How to reach

  • By plane: Nearest airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra, located near Siliguri in North Bengal, which is at a distance of 124 km and 4 hrs drive from Gangtok. A helicopter ride is also available from Bagdogra to Gangtok.
  • By train: Nearest railway station to Sikkim is Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri. These stations are connected with Kolkata.
  • By road: You will get numerous share-cabs from Siliguri to Sikkim. Apart from this number of buses (Sikkim State Bus) ply along the route from Siliguri to Sikkim.
