Shoemaking with Local Artisans: Glass Art Shoes by Alex Krupkin

By Softstar @Soft_Star_Shoes

I don't think a single day goes by in our workshop that we don't appreciate the relationship we have with our local community. Our fans are the BEST, and it's touching to see how many customers have developed a personal relationship with our shoemaking and customer service elves. It's an honor and a privilege for our workshop to be located smack dab in the middle of a small Oregon town, and to mingle regularly with other local artisans. Sometimes this results in very creative projects, such as our Dia de los Muertos shoes painted by Diana Rose, or the historically replicated Southwest Desert Moccasins we sell that are handmade by local leather artisan Rick Tabor.

We were reminded of this again last week when local glass artist Alex Krupkin approached us about a collaborative shoe art idea. He planned to present our shoes as a gift for a friend, but wanted to incorporate his glass art into the design. After some creative discussions with our seamstresses, he managed to craft a couple glass orbs that could be mounted as buttons on a pair of moccasins.

We were very happy with the results, and we even agreed to resell Alex's "Dragon Eggs" in our shop with 100% of the proceeds going to the Kids-for-Kids charity (sorry, but they're only available for local customers).
