Seoul Cat Cafe

By Burntwaffles

This is gonna be an extremely cat-centric post.
If you are afraid of cats or simply CANNOT stand the sight of them (WHY?!!!), please skip this post.

One really extremely freezing and unbearably cold afternoon, my friends and I were desperately trying to seek solace in a warm cafe. And that’s how I lured them to a cat cafe . . .

It’s nothing like what you see in those cute-sy Hello Kitty Cafes.
In fact, all you get to enjoy here is the company of almost 50 actual cats! (Along with your cup of coffee, of course. That’s where the ‘cafe’ element kicks in. haha)

The stars of the cafe!

Before we entered the actual cafe premises with the roaming cats, we had to store all our bags into the lockers, change into their provided flip flops and sanitize our hands.

When we stepped in, I was initially pretty overwhelmed by the ratio of humans to cats. I did some research prior to the visit (to find the directions, mostly), and the pictures didn’t exactly illustrate the staggering number of free roaming cats.

The staff ushered us to this cool-looking vending machine to purchase our ‘entrance’ pass + a free drink. It cost about $9 for a basic soda + hours of cat watching!

The cafe is pretty small, but thoughtfully constructed in a way where cats have high structures to climb, jump and go crazy. (literally)

Staff feeding the cats during the ‘Feeding’ intervals. That’s not ALL the cats.

Andrew was very attracted to this fat cat (above). It has a super smug and ‘can’t-be-bothered’ attitude towards all the other cats and humans. Pretty unsociable, but it just made it even more adorable.

Having his eyes on this cat we named, Garfield, he stalked him/her every inch and corner of the cafe till Garfield relented and played with him. The cat was sooo oversized that he couldn’t even flip over! SO CUTE!

This smart cat crawled into Xinyun’s cardigan and found it so cozy and warm, he made it his home.

:)
(but he accidentally ripped out some threads along the way…)

I can seriously just do cat-watching all day long, and never get bored of it. (Why Singapore don’t have?!)

Andrew was still reeling in from the mega cat experience, and I couldn’t bear to expose them to another dog cafe nearby. Perhaps the next trip?

:)

Anyway, this cat cafe is located near Hongik University’s entrance, somewhere near the famous Playground and just adjacent to the Smoothie King! There should be a signboard leading to an alley towards the cafe. It’s a good place to escape the cold. Haha!
