Self-healing batteries? Well – yes!

This invention consists of a self-healing polymer that can be applied to silicon electrodes to keep them from cracking and falling apart during battery operation.

This battery electrode practically heals itself!

"Self-healing is very important for the survival and long lifetimes of animals and plants. We want to incorporate this feature into lithium ion batteries so they will have a long lifetime as well.” Said Stanford post-doctoral researcher Chao Wang (ref).
The practical use and applications for this self-healing electrode made from silicon micro particles is its wide use in the semiconductor and solar cell industry. Also it may lead to the creation of a new generation of lithium ion batteries for electric cars, cell phones and other devices
