Seasonal Apple Recipes for National Apple Month

By Creativeculinary @CreativCulinary

When so many in food blogging world are screaming 'PUMPKIN' from the top of their lungs; I'm over here more quietly advocating for apple. For me October is all about apples; even a drink I made with pumpkin was a pumpkin apple cider! So this month's 'Best of' series is all about the apple. Apple Crisps and Apple Cake, Pork Chops with Apple, even Popcorn are all included...and they all sound totally scrumptious.

My contribution to this month's apple extravaganza is a simple apple crisp. Simple and yet the best I've ever had. Apple Crisps are typically just apples that have been covered in some sugar that are baked with a topping that both adds to the apple juices to create a syrupy sauce but also provides a nice crisp topping. They are hard to mess up but my favorite recipe still takes it up a notch with the addition of booze. I know...shock of all shocks right...that I would add booze. But give me a break; this wasn't even my idea!!

This recipe is from one of my favorite cookbooks ever; a local Junior League Cookbook, And while not my original recipe, I did mix it up just a bit. I've made it with the specified Amaretto but it's just not a liqueur I use a lot so one day decided to try bourbon instead so I wouldn't have to buy a bottle of Amaretto and I loved it even more. A touch of bourbon, some lemon and a jigger of orange liqueur and that sauce component really is over the top. Don't believe me? Well...then you HAVE to try it. You'll see why we always fight over the last bite.

Here's my favorite apple crisp recipe and several more fantastic recipes from friends...enjoy!
