Food and drink businesses vie for prestigious green accolade

Diageo and Paterson Arran Ltd. are among the 27 Scottish organisations that have been shortlisted for this year’s Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards following a record number of entries.

Companies from all over Scotland entered the 16th annual environmental award scheme which recognises and rewards the commitment, actions and achievements of Scottish companies working hard to reduce their impact on the environment.

Entries to this year’s awards represented a range of sectors and sizes, demonstrating the diversity of companies which contribute to Scotland’s sustainability.

Diageo has been shortlisted for the Circular Economy award for its work at the Glendullan Distillery with Clearfleau Ltd which has seen the installation of a bio-energy plant at one of Speyside’s largest distilleries. The bio-energy plant is designed to handle a range of co-products and supply renewable energy back to the distillery from a dedicated biogas boiler, with the steam produced reducing fossil fuel based energy use on the site. This is Diageo’s second project with Clearfleau Ltd.

Paterson Arran Ltd, producers of shortbread, biscuits and oatcakes, has been shortlisted for the Management SME Award. First founded in 1895, the company’s master bakers combine traditional methods with today’s technology and resources to
make the popular products. Its success is built on a simple formula: quality food from clean, sustainable ingredients.

The shortlisted businesses will attend a special ceremony on the 26 November 2015 at the Sheraton Edinburgh Hotel, where the winners of all eight categories will be announced.
