Royal China, Nehru Place: Chinese Par Excellence

By Thetastingfork
Whenever it's about Chinese food in Delhi, Royal China in Nehru Place has consistently been in the top 5 for people. The place makes up for a destination for brilliant Chinese food, and also accommodates all kinds of events and companions. It is one of the most romantic places in the city with a panaromic view to gape at, it makes for a perfect family get together or a friends lunch, and all this is because of the impeccable food here. Because food makes the center of every attraction and that is what attracts people here.

Royal China's unlimited dimsum lunch for a fixed price is one of the most favourable fixed lunch options in the city, because their dimsums are to kill for! A huge array of dimsums, veg and non veg, made with such finesse and perfection. Their Vegetable Crystal Dumplings are a must try even if you're a non vegetarian. And if you like something spicy then do try the Seafood Dumppling with Ginger and Chilli Oil. A burst of flavours from that delicious chilli! Go with the basics like Chicken and Chive, Prawn and Chive if you like to stick to the usuals, and you will be blown away by them too. The dimsums are served with three dipping sauces and each of them complement the dimsums beautifully. I'm personally a fan of the chilli oyster.

Talk about soups and Royal China does a fantastic Hot n Sour, very different from the usuals. This one is more sour in flavor and the chicken, egg drops and the balanced flavor of spices are spot on in taste. If you like subtler flavours then go for the Sweet Corn or Vegetable and Mushroom. Subtle yet flavourful.

My most favorite chicken appetizer here is Chicken in Dry Red Chilli. Even the servers will recommend that to you if you ask for chicken appetizer recommendations. It's the kind of dish that will be loved by all. It's not too spicy, it's not bland, the chicken is juicy and tender, the flavor of chilli comes out too well, and it's just a very comforting delicious dish. In vegetarian you can always go witht he Lotu Stem, Honey Potatoes, Tofu, but the last time I went I tried the Vegetable Salt n Pepper. The vegetables were in a tempura style, and there was a mixture of salty spicy onions and chillies chopped veyr finely and put on top of the vegetables. The mix is too salty and the vegetables too bland (all this in a good way). Hence, the balance of the two is great.

Main course calls for Sliced Fish in chilli oil and spring onion with Chicken Fried Rice, and Royal China Exotic Vegetables with Mixed Vegetable Noodles. The fish simply melts in your mouth. A dry fish with a slightly spicy flavor of chilli oil and sweetness form the spring onions brings out only a big smile on your face after the first bite. The fried rice can be had on its own too, it doesn't need any gravy to go alongwith. Equally soul-satisfying as the non vegetarian fare, the hot garlic vegetables are love. The noodles are catered for those who don't prefer chilli, but they're every bit delicious even without a trace of chilli. Main course that fills your heart with joy!

Dessert can never ever be anything apart from the Honey Noodles and Vanilla Ice-cream here. Incredible stuff! Crispy honey noodles served hot, with two scoops of vanilla icecream. Is there anything else you need in life? This time round I also tried Chocolate Mud Cake. Gooey soft mesmerizing chocolate cake lathered with chocolate sauce, served hot and devoured within minutes. Chocolate lovers, this deserves a special visit to Royal China!

The staff is here to the point. Except for one server who was damn sweet and was thankfully serving us, the others were all too straightforward, bordering blunt. The food is exceptional here and the quality too is superb. The place is gorgeous and makes for a lovely fine dining place. Prices are on the higher side but you still can't call the place 'expensive'. For anyone who hasn't tried Royal China yet, do so ASAP!! You don't know what you're missing out on.
