Take one Friday night, add some friends from 102.1 The Edge, throw in a little Mill Street beer, add the face melting UK duo, Royal Blood, mix it together at The Velvet Underground, and you've got the perfect recipe for kicking off your weekend.
There's a sweet anticipation that comes from knowing you're going to a show, knowing it's going to be a kick ass band but not knowing who that band will be. It's fantastic! The only thing better is finding out who that band is and getting even more excited.
Tonight that's exactly what happened. The UK duo out of Brighton came to Toronto to sing and play and get us all involved in the madness. Mike Kerr on vocals and Ben Thatcher on drums are a pair of guys who sound like a whole band on their own. They're loud and energetic, they're fun to watch, and they filled The Velvet Underground with bone-crushing sound.
Side note - I couldn't help but think of Crown Lands tonight. They're another one of my favourite, very loud, very talented duos.
This was our first 102.1 The Edge Secret Show and we sure hope it's not our last.
