Rowling fans can expect to the see the episodic adaptation in 2014.

Rowling has transitioned into the world of adult literature with her latest novel, The Casual Vacancy.

Her first work since the completion of the Harry Potter series, The Casual Vacancy strays away from the realm of spells and potions.

The novel focuses on the small town of Pagford, a community beset with the internal conflicts between the rich and the poor, pupils and their teachers, wives and their husbands and so forth.

But when Barry Fairbrother dies, a shock to the community at large, the newly vacant position on the town council becomes the biggest catalyst for conflict the town has seen yet.

BBC One controller Danny Cohen said he was excited to bring Rowling’s latest work to audiences.

“[Her] story-telling is of course peerless in its popularity, and I am looking forward to collaborating with her,” he said.

Likewise, Rowling has expressed her thrill to work with BBC on this venture.

“I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home,” Rowling said.

The number and length of the episodes will be determined after the creative process on the project has begun, the BBC said Monday.

The adaptation is expected to première on BBC One in 2014.
