Rio de Janiero to Salvador

Rio Harbour

Rio is home to one of the natural wonders of the world, Rio harbor.  The picture above is taken from the Christ the Redeemer statue, Rio harbor and Sugarloaf mountain.  If you get chance to take a helicopter tour of Rio this picture would look great with, Rio harbour, Sugarloaf mountain and the Christ Redeemer statue.

Downtown Rio

I discovered in Rio how expensive the hotels are around Copacabana and Ipanema.  Unless you have a large budget I would recommend staying in downtown Rio or another suburb and using the metro system to get to the beaches and other parts of the city.  I found the metro was very modern and easy to use, you can even buy tickets that connect with local buses and its all clearly signposted.
Many people say how dangerous it is in Rio, but I felt safe in the downtown area and using the public transport.

Overnight bus from Rio to Salvador, 30 hours, 292 Reais

I took an Aguia Branca overnight bus from Rio de Janiero to Salvador, it was advertised as a 24 hour journey but took 30 hours. it was a comfortable bus though and it arrived safely.  The police stopped the bus once on route and checked the passengers hand baggage and identifications.
