Review: The Marsh Madness by Victoria Abbott Description (from cover):
'The national bestselling author of The Wolfe Widow presents another spine-tingling mystery featuring rare book collector Jordan Bingham and some Ngaio Marsh first editions worth killing for...
Jordan works hard to improve Vera Van Alst's collection of classic detective stories. So when Chadwick Kauffman--heir to the Kauffman fortune--offers a very good price on a fine collection of Ngaio Marsh first editions owned by his recently deceased stepfather, she is thrilled to meet with him at his fabled summer estate, Summerlea.
The next day, Jordan and Vera are shocked to read that Chadwick has died in a fall from the grand staircase at Summerlea. But when the picture in the paper is of a different man, it becomes clear that the ladies are victims of a scam. And they'll have to unmask the imposter fast, because someone is trying to frame them for murder...'
My thoughts:
This series has been one of my favorites since the beginning. I love the literary theme of this series and that books play a huge role in this series. Vera Van Alst seems like a nightmare to work for, but who wouldn't want to be around rare mystery books all the time? I envy Jordan Bingham's job as it seems like a dream come true. This book has to be one of my favorites in the series. It was a little different than the others in that the police suspected the main characters and they had to keep a low profile. I love the way Jordan uses her family connections to avoid arrest in this book. I think that the author did a fantastic job of keeping this series alive and adventurous.
Chadwick Kauffman has contacted Vera Van Alst about a collection of rare Ngaio Marsh books. Of course, Vera cannot turn down a good deal and Vera, Jordan and Jordan's uncle, Kevin, head out to Kauffman's family estate of Summerlea to have lunch to discuss the sale of the rare books. At lunch everything seems normal and the sale of the books goes smoothly. That is until the next day, when the police arrive at Alst's house to question them about the murder of Chadwick Kauffman. As the questioning continues, more and more details come out and it appears that the Mr. Kauffman that they met was an imposter and the real Mr. Kauffman is now dead at the hands of a murderer. Jordan jumps into action to try to clear her name and that of her employer and uncle.
This book was action packed and was very compelling for a cozy mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to an already wonderful series and I cannot recommend this series enough. The author does a fantastic job of keeping her readers on her toes and keeping the mystery a secret until the very end. I cannot wait to read the next installment of this series as this author is phenomenal at creating a wonderfully enjoyable cozy mystery. I simply couldn't put this one down. Another job well done by Victoria Abbott.
