I had mixed feelings with this book. I’ll start off with the things I didn’t really liked. This book is divided into 4 parts, and the pacing for the first 2 parts were really slow for me. After reading about a hundred pages, there wasn’t that much of a progress on the story. The first part was the most confusing part for me. It was hard for me to picture the world at first, and I actually thought that the main character, Allie, was already a vampire.. turned out she was a human who was an outcast along with the other humans who didn’t live within the vampire cities.
The parts that I liked was that the 2nd half of the book was pretty much action packed. More of my questions were answered, and the story has gotten interesting. I also like how the characters were realistic and had their own voice. I could tell them apart, but for me, they aren’t the characters who I’ll remember forever. I also liked the romance too. It wasn’t cheesy or insta-love.
This book actually gave me a sad vibe. I found it sort of depressing because Allie doesn’t have any family and she’s tagging along with these humans who are outcasts to find this place called “Eden” which supposedly is a place with NO vampires.
Overall, I enjoyed it although I had a few issues with it. I like how Julie Kagawa killed off some of the characters in the book (that sounds bad, but some authors doesn’t like killing their characters which makes it unrealistic ESPECIALLY if the book is a vampire/zombie book..) I recommend it if you’re a big fan of vampires or zombies.
