Review: The History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Foam Cleanser

By Beautifulbuns

Oops I did it again (yes, I’m a Britbrit fan), I went on a slight hiatus again. I’ve been so swamped this week that I didn’t have energy to do up a proper blog review. The best part of my day is when I remove all the makeup (along with the caked dirt and grime and icky accumulated sebum and oil) with my Clarisonic – it’s just totally “ahhhh” for me. Anyhoos, not all cleansers can be used with the Clarisonic (i.e. never, ever use those with little exfoliating beads cos it’ll be wayyy too abrasive for your skin!). I tend to go for foamy cleansers that can work up a good lather, which includes this one from The History of Whoo (that I bought during my trip to visit their flagship store earlier this year).

I say…

The Packaging: It comes in a matte-finish tube with a flick-open cap. It’s considerably stable if you’re at 100% sobriety, but may require a bit more effort to set down on the basin if you’ve had some drinks or are in a rush.

The Scent: I’m so loving the scent – it has a distinct herbal-ginseng scent that’s a toned-down version of the Ryeo shampoos. I dunno man, I guess I’m just a sucker for such scents cos it gives the whole impression of wholesome herbal goodness. It’s not overwhelming, but just enough to drum it into your brain that  “you are washing your face with ginsengggggg”.

The Texture/Application: It’s a normal foam cleanser that lathers up pretty decently into a semi-thick foam that’s great for deep cleansing as well as usage with the Clarisonic cleansing gadget. It doesn’t drip or get too watery (unless you douse it with a bucket of water), and leaves the skin feeling clean, soft and smooth. There’s a very, very, very slight tightened skin feeling, but not too overly drying.

The Verdict: I love this! It’s on my list of top favorite cleansers for the following reasons: 1) it cleans well without overstripping the skin of its natural moisture, 2) it seldom requires double cleansing cos it does a good job of removing all the dirt, 3) it has a good texture, 4) it smells wonderfully herby, 5) it’s from Korea. Yes yes, biased much I know, but hey, why not give it a try? To be really honest, I can’t list any discernible or obvious difference between this one and the Brightening Cleansing Foam – If I really had to nitpick and pull something outta my granny panties, I’d say that Gongjinhyang Foam cleanser is more for rejuvenating and overall skin health, while the Brightening Cleansing Foam is for.. well.. brightening. Both are pretty decent and don’t give me any breakouts, so I’m not fussed. I’d just gravitate towards this one for its stronger ginseng scent. Overall, a pretty decent cleanser that’s worth its price (and I’m so sorry, I can’t quite rem how much I paid for this heh). Check it out at Tangs if you’re keen? :) TGIF yall!
