Who saw Man of Steel over the weekend?  It was awesome, right?  To read about Superman in his original format, comic books, check out this review from guest blogger Chad (you can find him on Twitter here!) on the new Superman series: Superman Unchained.

Superman, the Man of Steel, is definitely more popular than he has been in years. It is the 75th anniversary of the character’s creation and DC Comics is going all out in the celebration of this iconic character. With a huge blockbuster film that they hope will launch a Marvel style universe on film (if you haven’t seen Man of Steel RUN to the theaters now, it’s fantastic, a 9 out of 10), multiple new comic series, and so much merchandise its hard not to see Kal-El’s face where ever you find yourself.

Scott Snyder, the semi-rookie superstar writer of the new 52 Batman series has teamed up with legend Jim Lee to give Superman a brand new monthly comic series titled Superman Unchained. Dang is it good.

The first issue wasted no time getting straight to the action that makes Superman so super. Saving dozens of people and preventing a space station falling from space from killing even more Scott showed what makes Superman who he is, setting the stage for a truly epic new series.

Superman has struggled since the launch of the new 52. His monthly “Superman” series has gone under multiple creative team overhauls in the two years since the company wide relaunch, but if you ask me Superman Unchained is right where the character should have been all along. Scott seems to have a great grasp of not only the man of steel but also all of his supporting characters. Lois, Jimmy, Perry and of course Lex all made appearances in the first issue and all where in their sweet spots and I cannot wait to see where this story takes them. The final reveal at the end of the issue sets up such an interesting idea and storyline that shocked has never been thought of before now. This issue just continues to solidify Scott’s place as a rising star and future legend in the comic world.

What do you think?  Have you enjoyed the new reincarnation of Superman?  Tell us in the comments!
