Review: Skinfood Lime Secret Shine Base #Pearl Green

By Herugliness
Hello! ~ Today I am going to review the Skinfood Lime Secret Shine Base in the shade #Pearl Green. Another of the mass of products I bought a long time ago but didn't want to open and use before I had used up the current base I was using.

The packing design is very simple, like most of Skinfood's products. What I liked was that the bottle is actually not made of plastic, but out of glass. It is quite heavy and doesn't appear as cheap as a plastic bottle. What I did not like at all was how the product is made up: You open the bottle and the opening is huge and there is a huge spattle inside. I didn't quite expect this and spilled the product all over the place the first time I opened it. I don't think it's handy and, most of all, it is very unhygienic because you put the spattle, which was on your skin (on my hand, I won't put this directly on my face, but it does not matter either way) into the bottle again and again. It is a guarantee to get lots of bacteria into the product after just a short amount of time. A pump like for example the Etude House Baby Skin Base has would have been the best solution, but I think anything but this spattle would have been better.

The name of the shade, Pearl Green, really describes the color well. Whereas I am used for these green type of bases to be really green, this one is a creamy white with just a hint of green. On top of that it sparkles in all colors of the rainbow. I am not a fan of sparkling and shimmering bases or creams, so I am not sure I would have bought it if the official product photos had displayed how much this sparkles, but I guess that it isn't so bad as it is just a base and you put BB Cream or foundation over it. I should have probably known if I read Skinfood's description properly, which says "This oil-free, lightweight makeup base with dual-reflective pearl creates a clear, radiant skin tone with an enhanced glow". I was just searching for a new greenish base, without looking too much at product descriptions. D'uh! I hate sparkle and glow on my face. Where is the next Twilight costume party?

I thought that maybe it wasn't as bad once you have added BB Cream over it, but nope, doesn't work for me.
The point of a green base is that, if you have lots of red spots/areas on your face, it reduces the redness, but all the Skinfood Lime Secret Shine Base does is turn my face into a greasy oilslick that sparkles in all facets of the rainbow. Adding BB Cream over it doesn't help at all. While it doesn't sparkle anymore, it still looks very oily and just doesn't mix up well with the BB Cream.
This is probably the worse base I have ever tried and there is no way I will use this product. :( I gave it to a friend who seems to quiet like it, so it is probably a matter of personal preference.
