Review: Shweat Scoop Clumping Cat Litter

By Savvybrown @savvybrownblog

I’ve talked about the dangers of clay cat litter before but it bears mentioning again. I stopped using silica-based clay cat litter for two reasons: Clay cat litter is bad for the environment because it is strip mined and the dust permeating the air from your cats’ kicking it around is bad for both you and your cats respiratory systems. So when Swheat Scoop contacted me* and asked if I would be interested in doing a review, I jumped at the chance.

Swheat Scoop Multi-Cat Litter Review

According to Shweat Scoop the litter is “made from Natural ingredients, just wheat and other grains. It contains no clay, silica dust, sodium bentonite, chemicals or artificial fragrances and is often recommended by veterinarians for post-surgical cats and kittens.” This litter is also biodegradable, which means that when it goes to a landfill, the litter will erode away naturally as opposed to poisoning the soil or sitting on top unable to break down and preventing the soil from .

I chose the Multi Cat version because I have two cats. One is 4 and the other is 12. The younger one will go in any litter box wherever it is. The older one, however, is VERY picky about his litter. (Which is why I now have two litter boxes). I wasn’t so sure he’d use this product, but he did! The grains are much smaller than the paper pellet litter I was previously using, which made it easier to scoop.

Clumping

It clumps pretty well as long as I cleaned the box daily. I noticed if I waited a couple of days to scoop, the clumps fell apart more and would stick to the sides of the box.

Odor control

Shweat Scoop did a good job of covering up odors and I really didn’t smell anything unless I was scooping or cleaning out the boxes at the end of the week entirely.

Tracking

The litter did track a bit, but no more than other litters I have used. Plus, my younger cat is crazy clumsy and tumbles his way out of the box daily, (so much of the tracking could be due to him).

Overall

I like Shweat Scoop! It’s good for the environment and I don’t have to worry about inhaling silica dust or the smell of cat urine. I will say that because I had to scoop the litter a more often, that I went through it more quickly and next time I will consider getting the 40lb bag instead of the 20 lb one. Most importantly, my cats used it! I am adding Shweat Scoop to my list of my cats’ approved litters (it’s a short list trust me). I will be buying this product again.

(It’s pretty informative!). The company also does work with rescue programs and their parent company Pet Care Systems seem to be committed to environmental safe practices.

RATING: 4 Smart!* – Good product, good ingredients, decent performance, can get pricey if you don’t buy in larger quantities.

*I was given a free coupon for one bag of Shweat Scoop by the company. I was not compensated monetarily for this review, nor was I asked to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
