Review: SHOTGUN WEDDING #3

Posted on the 16 April 2014 by Geekasms @geekasms

Shotgun Wedding #3 is the third issue in a four part series.  I reviewed parts 1 & 2 and the series wraps up next week.  Shotgun Wedding is the story of Mike and Chloe and how they went from staring into each others eyes to staring down the barrel of a gun.

This issue continues straight from #2 where Mike is getting married to Denise.  Chloe shows up to wreck havoc and we see just how unhinged she really is.  A woman scorned indeed.  There is a lot of story packed into these three issues and Harms does a great job of holding my interest.  We spent time finding out about Mike and Chloe in the past issues, but this one focuses more on Mike and Denise and how they met.  It makes me wonder if everything is really as it seems.  Since the last issue is due out next week, I will soon know how all of this ties together.

The black and white visuals still pop off the page and Pun has some fun with a few panels, most notably when he reflects an image off the barrel of a gun.  I was impressed with the visuals more in the first two issues than this one, but that may be me just getting used to the look of the comic.  Pun tends to bring his characters to the front and not spend much time on backgrounds.  That might be necessary with a black and white book, but I noticed it more this time around.

Overall, Shotgun Wedding is an interesting, if not totally original story.  It has pieces of similar stories at its core, but manages to feel more like an homage to those stories and not a copy.
