Review: Lethal Letters by Ellery Adams Description (from cover):
'Restaurant owner and aspiring novelist Olivia Limoges is busy planning a delicious menu for Oyster Bay's biggest soiree of the spring. But she'll need to serve some justice as well, after one resident gets eighty-sixed...
Everyone's got their hands full in Oyster Bay, North Carolina. Aside from two upcoming weddings, there's also the historical society's annual fundraiser: the Secret Garden Party. Adding to the excitement, Olivia witnesses the discovery of a time capsule in the foundation of a local church. The historical society president hopes to display its contents at their party, but when the items are finally revealed to the public, Olivia notices one of them has vanished.
After a frightening find beneath the pier--the body of Ruthie Holcomb--Olivia is certain there's a connection between the young woman's death and the missing piece from the time capsule. With the help of her fellow Bayside Book Writers, Olivia sets out to uncover some clues and ensure a killer has no reason to celebrate...'
My thoughts:
Olivia Limoges is busy planning her friend and chef's wedding reception at her local restaurant. She is also busy planning her own wedding to local police chief and the local historical society's annual fundraising dinner. She happens to be on the scene when a time capsule is recovered from a local church. She is shocked and amazed by what is in the time capsule and when the local historical society's president does a public reveal of the time capsule's contents, she learns that something is missing. Something is not quite what it seems and when Olivia and her niece stumble across a local woman's body on the beach, she starts putting two and two together. What is the missing item from the time capsule and why would someone go as far as committing murder to keep it a secret? Olivia is determined to seek out justice and find out exactly what is going on in her little beloved town of Oyster Bay.
This series is a series that I come back to time and time again. I love the setting of a coastal North Carolina town. I am from North Carolina and this reminds me so much of the beaches that I have visited. I love the atmosphere and the characters in this series. Ellery Adams is a phenomenal writer and her stories always seem to suck me in at the beginning. I had an idea of who the murderer was in this book, but this book is so much more than a murder mystery. It is a pivotal point in the series and I thought it was well done. I enjoyed the ending and cannot wait to read the next one. At least, I won't have to wait long as the next one, Writing All Wrongs, will be released on November 3, 2015. I cannot wait to get my hands on that one and see what Olivia and her poodle, discover next.
If you love light and cozy mysteries with a coastal feel, then this is definitely a series worth checking out. I just happened to stumble across this series a couple of years ago and have enjoyed it from the very beginning. I hope that series is around for a while longer as each installment is a treat to read. This series has yet to have grown stale as some series tend to do after a while. A great read and installment to an already fantastic series.
