Review: L'oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion

By Beauteandtheblog
Hello everyone!
So lately, I've gotten super paranoid about my skin and sun exposure (check out my post on Summer Essentials where I basically shove the miracle of sunscreen down your throats). I've been trying to cut down on tanning outdoors as much as possible and apply sunscreen like its my job.
That being said, I do still enjoy a warm golden tan in the summer, so I've started dabbling in some self-tanners as of late to try to emulate my natural summer tan.
I'm already pretty tan to begin with, but I do have some bikini tan lines I'd like to cover as well, and just a few places I'd like to even out.
The first one I've tried is the L'oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion in the shade Deep Natural Tan.

Here's what it claims:

  • Streak-free
  • Instant bronze glow
  • Won't rub off
So far, this one's merely passable. Not terrible, but nothing great.
I purchased this product in the darkest shade available, and when I think Deep natural tan, I think majorly tan. Like at least two shades darker than my natural skin tone (about NC 35-40 in the summer). Unfortunately, this lotion came out about my shade or possibly even a bit lighter on the first application. That ain't deep, girlfriend.
Here's what it looks like on paper with two layers:

Now, you can build this up in a couple of layers, but honestly, I'm impatient. I want a tan and I want it now. I don't want to reapply 5 times before I get a passable color. (insert childish whine)
However, it did look quite natural, except except EXCEPT for the copious amounts of glitter/shimmer. There is shimmer in this product and no, it does not look natural. But I solved this problem pretty easily - I apply the lotion at night and it dries pretty quickly, so it doesn't spread on my sheets or anything. Sleep on it, and then in the morning, shower, and all the shimmers fall off but the color remains.
The product is tinted, so you know where you're applying it, and the color develops pretty quickly. It darkens slightly over time. I didn't have a problem with streaking either, so that's a plus
The smell is okay, nothing terrible, and it doesn't linger.
OVERALL: Overall, I'd give the product as a whole 3.5/5 stars - just the deep color thing really throws me off.
Anyone else tried it? What do you think? Or have any advice for other self-tanners I can try out?
Leave it in the comments below!
Love,
Belle
