Review: Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick

By Beautifulbuns

Considering I’m having to hop over piles of beauty products just to get out of bed, you’d think I’d have more discipline when it comes to buying new makeup items. Brain says no, heart of beauty junkie says “YASSSS BUY EVERYTHANGGG”. Here’s something I picked up from Sephora NYC when I was there last month😀 you can get it from local Sephora stores for SGD$72 though.

I say…

The Packaging: A long triangular tube measuring about 11.5cm in length. It’s made of a rather heavy metal(esque?) material, so it’s rather weighty. The triangular shape means it doesn’t roll off any slanted surfaces, and it also means that the foundation stick itself has an angled shape that allows easy application to corners (of the nose, under the eyes, etc).

The Scent: Not much of a scent – an extremely mild, almost negligible faint powdery scent.

The Texture: Relatively creamy, smooth and easily blendable. It sets into a mostly-matte finish with a slight tinge of dewiness that only appears at strategic locations such as your cheekbones and nose bridge. The coverage is relatively high – it’s enough to cover the dark eye circles. It can

Does it oxidise? No – yay! There’s no patchiness/caking of the product even after extended wear time. However, note that it can appear slightly patchy over very dry skin / scabbed areas.

How about oil control? Sadly, this doesn’t have much oil/sebum control qualities – I found myself reaching for the blotting films/tissue sheets after about 3 hours or so, which is when the shine started to show on the skin. On the bright side, some light dabbing with a tissue is enough to cause the shine to subside, but it does lift some foundation along with it. On the other, other bright side, you can touch up with the same product and there’s no patchiness or caking either, which I must say is somewhat of a rarity of a stick foundation product.

The Verdict: Me likey! It gives a natural finish with sufficient coverage (this is touted as a foundation and concealer in one), does a graceful fading into nothing as the hours wear on, and gives a good matte-dewy finish. It’s also buildable so you can touch up when needed. The only downside (if I had to nitpick) would be its slightly heavy packaging – I find that most of the weight is concentrated in its cap, which means when I put it standing up, it could tip over very easily with a very slight bump. Oh, and also be sure to moisturise sufficiently, or exfoliate your skin to get rid of flaky bits before application, or else you might see some minor patchiness. Otherwise, in terms of actual usage experience, I’m pretty happy with this.
