Review: Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour and Primer

By Beautifulbuns

Andd it’s time for yet another lip product – now I know the Kylie Jenner Lip kit is so popular, but I’ve never really wanted to get it, based purely on the fact I’ve got very dry and chapped lips (despite slathering on the Vaseline every night before I sleep). I’m pretty wary when it comes to matte lip products, which is why finding this actually made me veh, veh, veh happy.

I say…

The Packaging: A short, square tube measuring a mere 7.5cm tall. The cap twists open and has the sponge applicator attached to it. It’s soft and non-abrasive, but tbh, it doesn’t really matter (I will get to this part later).

The Scent: Nil.

The Texture: It’s creamy and doesn’t drag on the skin. It’s RIDICULOUSLY, EXTREMELY pigmented (perhaps 2-3x more than the lipstick edition of this product)– this is the reason why I say the texture of the sponge applicator doesn’t matter. All you need is 1-2 dabs of the applicator onto your lips, and you’ll have a super bright and vibrant lip color. Why, your lips will barely feel the applicator. Applying directly onto non-balmed lips is fine – it might say it’s “matte” in the name, but upon initial application, this has a somewhat glossy finish, that sets into a semi-matte finish.

Tip: You might want to have a Qtip on hand when applying this – I don’t use the attached applicator to draw the outlines cos it ends up spreading moreeee color. Use the cotton bud to spread the color on your lips and to draw the outlines (don’t use your fingers cos they’ll get tinted from the strong pigents).

The Verdict: Now I must say that I’m pretty impressed with this as a lip product – the pigments are so strong (the color intensity is crazy rich), and it goes on well onto dry chapped lips. After several hours of wear time, the glossiness fades but the color lessens into a rosy tint. It doesn’t sink into the fine lines of the lips (I’m talking about after extended weartime). Need a bright, bold, and bombastic lip color for that gala dinner? This is definitely the product to go to. What’s more, because just 1-2 dabs gives you crazy rich colour, you’ll totes get bang for your buck since this will last for a long, long, long time (both on the lips, and also in terms of not having to buy a replacement lippie).
