Review: 1st to Die by James Patterson Description (from cover):
'1st to Die is a dazzlingly powerful new thriller by master suspense novelist, James Patterson, the #1 bestselling author of Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.
Four women-four friends-share a determination to stop a killer who has been stalking newlyweds in San Francisco. Each one holds a piece of the puzzle: Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector in the San Francisco Police Department, Claire Washburn is a medical examiner, Jill Bernhardt is an assistant D.A., and Cindy Thomas just started working the crime desk of the San Francisco Chronicle.
But the usual procedures aren't bringing them any closer to stopping the killings. So these women form a Women's Murder Club to collaborate outside the box and pursue the case by sidestepping their bosses and giving one another a hand.
The four women develop intense bonds as they pursue a killer whose crimes have stunned an entire city. Working together, they track down the most terrifying and unexpected killer they have ever encountered--before a shocking conclusion in which everything they knew turns out to be devastatingly wrong. Full of the breathtaking drama and unforgettable emotions for which James Patterson is famous, 1st to Die is the start of a blazingly fast-paced and sensationally entertaining new series of crime thrillers.'
My thoughts:
I feel like I am a sellout. I always try to steer clear of the mainstream authors as I tend to read a little different things. My mom has been a fan of this series for a while and was always telling me that I need to pick up this series and read it. The first couple of books were on sale for the Kindle a couple of months ago, so I picked up the first three in this series and just finally got around to reading the first one. I have to say, I enjoyed it. I really thought I wouldn't but these books are hard not to like. The plots have twists and turns and the characters seem genuine and real.
I never thought that I would be one to read James Patterson as we all know he doesn't really write these books. So major props to the one who does actually write these books as they are simply too good to put down. I will admit that they are more gory than the cozy mysteries that I usually tend to read and they do have some strong language at times. Nothing that I really can't get past. I enjoy Lindsay's no-nonsense attitude and her friends and her willingness to do whatever it takes to protect the citizens of San Francisco.
I was simply shocked at how much I did enjoy reading this book, which I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. James Patterson isn't who he is today because he writes boring books. His books pack a punch and hit the ground running from the very first page. I will continue with the series as I enjoyed the characters and from what I hear the series gets better and better with each book in the series.
