Smartphones have dominated our lives over the past decade, and there have been some fantastic designs along the way. We've come to rely on their ultra-quick responsiveness and vast arrays of features . It's true that the smartphone has totally revolutionized the way we think of cell phones.

Yet, this rise in popularity has given birth to some horrific smartphone designs, lacking reliability. It's that latter category that we're going to focus on today, stepping back in history to look at a few notable examples.

You might be somewhat surprised to see this entry on the list. The Samsung Galaxy series of smartphones have enjoyed massive success over the years, and the SIII was no different. That said, its immense popularity has led to more issues than you might expect. In one notable instance, a mobile insurance provider survey ranked it as the least reputable smartphone in 2013. For that reason, we can't leave it off this list.

If you're shouting at the screen and arguing about that last one, you won't be about this one. The Blackberry Storm created bolts of thunder in its users, who suffered a frustrating experience. It suffered from all sorts of glitches, lacked responsiveness, and it was returned on a vast basis. This really dealt Blackberry a huge blow, as consumers started to drift away from the brand. A huge bust all around, then.

There was nothing intently wrong with the HTC Wildfire's design. It was a cheap phone, and it packed a lot of features for the price. But, a low cost means sacrificing some important details. The most important of all, in this case, was its laughably low internal memory, which caused some real reliability issues. Cell phone experts were inundated with these devices, constantly being requested to tweak them. Eventually, most of us just gave up with it and bought something better.

The Motorola Droid was a phone that actually sold very well when it came out, enjoying popularity. That said, it suffered from issues in regards to slow speeds across the board. Glitches were an occasional occurrence, and rebooting the phone seemed to take an age to complete. This isn't the worst example on our list, but it would be downright insufferable for most phone users these days.

Have you ever heard of the Panasonic Eluga ? There's a good reason why. Trying to break into the smartphone market is never easy, but Panasonic didn't do themselves any favors here. It started off well, with a good design and waterproof features that enhanced its appeal. But, it wasn't good in practice, suffering from poor battery life and inept hardware. This was the end for Panasonic in the smartphone market, and they've yet to return.
