There are three time slots you can choose: lunch, and two slots for dinner. All restaurants do not have all the three slots but most of them do. You make your booking with a reservation charge of Rs.60 per head, which is non refundable, and you pay the per head amount at the restaurant. The RWI is in six cities this time- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune. You can make your reservations here: http://restaurantweekindia.com/
I went to try this time's RWI at Kiyan, The Roseate (earlier Dusit Devarana). Tried a lot of things from the menu as this was a trial of the menu they were showcasing at Restaurant Week India. The Baingan Bhaja and Rice Cracker were not anything that I would come back and pay for again, or even feel good about including in the menu of Restaurant Week India. They were a different take on the food but didn't impress me. The Stuffed Chicken Wings had a nice aromatic Thai flavor to it but the juices that should have been inside were lacking. I really liked the Banana Leaf wrapped Steamed Fish- a delicate dish which was very aromatic. The Home cured salmon was delicious, but the poached egg that accompanied the dish came broken to the table. The idea was to break into the poached egg myself and see how runny the yolk would be.
In mains I tried the Rajma Khichdi which was superb in taste! It was basically a khichdi which had its dal really spot on with flavours. It had kidney beans mixed with it- so not the Rajma curry flavor but the presence of rajma alone. A light main course dish. Again something that had a very different take to it, but if I come out for a meal, I wouldn't opt for this. I would go for a more intense-tasting dish which can be allowed to be slightly heavy on the palate.
Also tried the Homemade Cappellini with bell pepper ragout. A dish that was really flavourful and had a yummy chunky tomato sauce. A wholesome filling dish which tasted really good.
For desserts I tried the Mango and Chocolate Tiramisu and Coffee Toffee Pudding. The Tiramisu didn't work for me at all. Layers of chocolate mousse with mango that was mashed. The textures didn't go together for me and the amalgamation of flavours didn't quite taste nice to me. My mother, on the other hand, loved this one. So it really goes from palate to palate. Won't chalk off this dessert as average. The Coffee Toffee Pudding was smashing! A thin watered down toffee caramel sauce with a coffee flavoured pudding. Came with a scoop of vanilla icecream and that just completed the dessert for me. Lovely stuff!
