Reference Resource Mondays: Let’s Get To Work!

I think the title is reflective, in more ways than one somehow. I better explain.

Now that I’ve finished detailing all my exploits with my bizarre anime backlog adventure, it’s time for some sense of normalcy. So that means some projects that I’ve stalled on (especially in regards to anime) will be picked back up, hopefully. You might even see something anime related today! And yes, I have no more excuses for not doing RRM’s on Mondays now! Well, aside from me being just plain being lazy as usual…

But also because I finally will be working at a part time job this week.

That’s of course simultaneously exciting and scary. Mostly scary because I have no idea how this will cut into my time regarding anime/manga, blogging, etc. But it’ll just be having to test myself and my time management, since this was going to happen at some point. I’ll just have to deal with that somehow. But of course, I can actually start buying and saving up stuff instead of living on the edge! I MIGHT be able to go to an extra con or two next year instead of always being at NYCC. But I guess I have to actually start work before I get too far…

Anyways, enough chatter about work stuff. There were some decent reads this week. I think.

  • Very interesting post on manga translations in the west and its impact to not just manga fans, but comic book fans.
  • Heh, has nothing to do with anime/manga, but on writing, and the writing process for posts that might be helpful to some.
  • You should read this interview that Cho did with the fan translator of the Henneko LN’s — Frog-kun — and what he gained from that experience, among other things.
  • Speaking of Frog-Kun, he wrote about feminism and otaku in the same breath. Hmmmm….
  • Oh hey look, Marina went to Japan sometime in May-June ish and took lots of pictures. M-maybe with my paltry sum I can save up on going to Japan one day! I can dream now!…hehehe…*starts crying*
  • Kate wrote a post about going to the library and reading manga and comics. She also endorses you doing the same!
  • Mike at Anime Diet interviewed Yoshiki Sakurai, an anime screenwriter who’s been part of the Ghost in The Shell and Giovanni’s Island staff. Holy crap, his English is great! Why can’t studios use his voice when they have to speak English?!?
  • Matthew lets me know of Russian Composer Modest Mussorgsky, and how Osamu Tezuka’s involved. Well then!
  • SorrowsNeptune, what are you doing drawing a comic? Do you think I’d link to you out of pity or something?!? (well, the 50 wishes limit did crack me up)
  • I’m already sick to my stomach just looking at this. So damn evil!
  • Have a post that wonders about autistic anime, and its existence.
  • Finally, Jess thought it was a good idea to list some cool anime that people have never heard about. Jess, I’ve heard about all of them. I’ve even watched Wandering Son! Geez!

@Kami_nomi What do you mean you're not going to spend all you part time job money on shit at conventions?

— Sorrows Neptune (@SorrowsNeptune) July 18, 2014

Very openly mentioning hiring exfansubbers. Unsurprisingly, no mention of hiring CURRENT fansubbers; can't blame 'em http://t.co/bGG9SOHZ9c
