Red Sole: Christian Louboutin Exhibition @ Design Museum, London

By Whattowearfor @whattowearfor

If you happen to be in London town upto and including July 9th I thoroughly recommend you stop by the Design Museum on Southbank and check out the Christian Louboutin exhibition. Celebrating 20 years of the iconic designers masterpieces, this is literally shoe heaven. Adult entry starts at £10 (only £6 with a student card). If you’re feeling extravagant, £96 will get you entry and a beautiful 360-page color tribute featuring glossy images of all the designs featured and more.

This exhibition is glittery, shiny, heel-infused hedonism at its finest, enough to leave any shoe-lover salivating. Carousels of designs on red velevt cushions, a giant hologram of Dita Von Teese performing in all her glory (the technology here is VERY impressive) and some of Louboutins, finest and most famous work all in one little treasure trove make this heaven.

With no photographs are allowed inside the actual exhibition, I thoroughly recommend taking a sketchbook as suggested by the Design museum, or even a notebook for the less artistically motivated among you. The walls are covered in anecdotes from the man himself about his inspirations. And for the design conscious individual seeking to follow in Christian’s footsteps, an entire room dedicated to the process of shoe design is a must.

Also, if you happen to be with someone who isn’t quite as obsessed with shoes, the second floor of the museum houses some of the Designs of 2012. I dragged the boy along with me and whilst he hated the main attraction, he genuinely enjoyed this part. Ergonomic chairs, landmine detection based on tumbleweed and such like fueled his scientific mind.

No song today, instead a little video about the making of the Dita Von Teese hologram for the exhibition.
