The Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection is finally available in Australia!! I have been eagerly waiting for these babies to come out. I’m a real fan of Real Technique, I currently own two core sets and the blush brush. I was MEGA lucky to have been invited to the Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection launch in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago. When I saw the email come through, I literally choked on the water I was drinking.
The Bold Metal Collection consist of 7 brushes and are color coded into 3 categories:
- Base (Gold) – 100 Arched Powder & 101 Triangle Foundation
- Eyes (Silver) – 200 Oval Shadow, 201 Pointed Crease & 202 Angled Liner
- Finish (Rose Gold) – 300 Tapered Blush & 301 Flat Contour
These brushes are so LUXE! The bristles are so soft because they are made with the highest-grade synthetic brush fibres. The brush handles have been designed so that they won’t roll around your makeup table while providing comfort and precise application. When I first picked up the brushes at the launch, I noticed they felt solid and heavier compared to the standard Real Technique brushes.
100 Arched Powder – This brush is not very dense so it’s great with loose or pressed powder. The shape of the brush is flatter compared to your normal powder brush which means it is also good with blush or bronzer.
101 Triangle Foundation – This brush is ultra funky, it’s actually in a shape of a triangle. The flatter side is good for large surface area on the face while the angled side is good for hard to reach places such as under the eyes or around the nose.
300 Tapered Blush – The Tapered Blush is a lot flatter than the original blush brush. The original blush brush covers more surface area whilst the tapered brush requires precision application. As the brush is denser, it will pick up more product so a lighter hand is required.
301 Flat Contour – This brush is really soft and mega dense. It makes contouring so easy on the hollows of the cheeks. As with what I mentioned above, this brush will pick up quite a bit of product. So if you’re into bruised cheeks, make sure you are not heavy handed.
200 Oval Shadow – Out of the seven brushes, this is my least favorite brush because it’s too big to be used on the eye lids (well my eyes anyway). When I was playing around with this brush, I tend to only use the tip to pick up eye shadows and again use the tip to apply it. So instead of using this on the eyes, I have used it to apply concealer under the eyes which it is perfect for.
201 Pointed Crease – This brush reminds me of my Sigma Pencil Brush (E30S) but twice as chunky. It’s quite a large dense crease brush and I find that it doesn’t really suit my asian eyes. However, it is a nifty tool to create the smokey eye.
202 Angled Liner – Although this brush is designed for lining the eyes, you can also use it for filling out the brows or lining the lips. Because the brush is so small, it provides a very precise application.
My favorite brushes out of the entire collection would have to be the 202 Angled Liner and 101 Triangle Foundation Brush. Both brushes are like incredible. The 101 Triangle Foundation Brush can reach any corner or hidden spots on the face because of the triangular shape of the brush. I just love how many uses you can get out of the 202 Angled Liner brush.
A fellow blogger asked me if the handles attract smudge marks or finger prints, I have only noticed a very tiny amount and it’s not noticeable if you’re not full on staring at it. Having said that, I’ve only used these brushes for the last two weeks so I don’t know if the smudging will get worse.
