Ralph Lauren’s Mid-Season Sale

Ralph Lauren’s mid-season sale started yesterday. Apparently they’ve skipped their usual private invitations and gone straight to public. This time, select items have been discounted by as much as 50%, although nicer items seem to hover around 30%. Possibly a good time to pick up a jacket, some shoes, or a bit of knitwear. Some of my favorites while browsing the site last night:

Outerwear: Lots of quilted jackets on discount, including a take on a perennial design they offer almost every year (I have an old version in navy, which I often wear with jeans). The adjustable side tabs help give shape to the waist, while the corduroy collar adds some nice detailing. There’s also a blue parka that would go well with Shetland sweaters, as well as a navy field jacket with a storm placket. See Pitti Uomo’s Mystery Man for inspiration on how to wear the latter.

Footwear: Lots of made-in-USA footwear, most likely produced by Allen Edmonds (but designed by Ralph Lauren). Included are wingtips, chukkas, and punch cap derbys. Personally, my favorites are the loafers, which are available in suede and burnished calf. Wear them with sport coats and linen shirts on warm weather days.

Knitwear: Cashmere cable knits and (slightly) brushed Shetlands are also on discount. Both would be great for adding texture to a slightly more sedate ensemble.
