Raising the Dead: Reflecting on Living Dead in Dallas

Posted on the 03 July 2012 by Eric And Sookie Lovers @EricSookieLover

While our summer months are consumed with True Blood, we want to take this moment and go back to the simple basics and celebrate the book series that really brought us together.

Continuing our “Celebrate the SVM” series, we here at E&SL started reflecting on our second story with Sookie and Eric: Living Dead in Dallas.

Raising the Dead: Reflecting on Living Dead in Dallas

As we did with Dead Until Dark, we each answered a few simple questions taking us on a trip down memory lane. We could say this was a mental road trip for us as we joined Sookie on her trip to Dallas and back.

Here is what we said

:)

How did reading it make you feel? Could you put it down?

B: I couldn’t put it down and as I read it the first time I giggled and wanted more. LDID triggered my need to devour the books that were available… due to the detriment of my abused wallet.

Erika: I couldn’t put this book down, especially during the house bombing/bullet sucking and orgy scenes.

What moment made you laugh?:

B: For me, It was the whole aftermath of the first maenad attack and they healed Sookie at Fangtasia. Cause this whole scene was where I started falling for the Viking. Yes Sookie was hurt, but she had no problem sassing a 1000 year old vampire to have him apologize she got hurt on his behalf… twice because she felt the first apology was lacking. His second apology, which is my second favorite line of his, had me in stitches because I could just imagine the internal eye roll as he poetically waxed his regret… because he it became obvious his standard operating player process was not gonna cut it. My “LOL” moment continued when Sookie came to and found out she was passed around as an hors doeurve for the 4 vampires.

Erika: The funniest moment for her was when Sookie called to invite Eric to the orgy. When you start your phone conversation with “Sookie, my little bullet sucker.”/”Eric, my big bull shitter.” and ends with Eric rendered silent, you know you have hit gold.

Diane: The moment that made her laugh was at the orgy its self… and Eric getting felt up by everyone.

What moment made you cry?

Erika: The moment that made me cry in this book was when Eric said, “Angelic Sookie, vision of love and beauty, I am prostrate that the wicked evil maenad violated your smooth and voluptuous body, in an attempt to deliver a message to me.” This was so sweet and unexpected to hear from a BAMF like Eric. It brought tears to my eyes, simply because it was so beautiful

Diane: it was the bullet sucking moment… and the fact that Sookie kept the bullet afterward. It was very very telling, even though Ms Sookie wasn’t ready to admit anything. I also felt strongly about Godfrey/Godric,  even though Godfrey was a pedophile, I found myself a bit sad when he met the sun. He had such a miserable vampire life. And Sookie was with him at the end.

B: Sookie’s attempted rape almost killed me. I was so grateful for Godric being there to help save Sookie.

Favorite Moment/Line from the book:

Diane: ’Angelic Sookie, vision of love and beauty, I am prostrate that the wicked evil maenad violated your smooth and voluptuous body, in an attempt to deliver a message to me”

Erika: My favorite line is harder to choose. I love the one I used for making me cry, and I loved the bullet sucking moment. The orgy moment, etc. But I have to go with the bullet sucking for my fave line/moment, when Eric said this, “You’re lips are bloody.” And then he kisses Sookie. But there were so many…it’s really hard to pick just one.

B: Oh my, this is tough to choose. I love how they started building a relationship in Dallas (even before the bullet sucking). But the orgy, they went to it in the corvette(!!!!!!). Then later on he “warmed her up” on the corvette. Did I mention I have a thing for corvettes?
