Wahaca has called on Pure Evil to paint their newest branch in Westfield, Stratford City and they’ve kindly sent over some snaps of the new work.

Street art is something which has been important for the two founders since the beginning of Wahaca. They were influenced by the markets in Mexico – the food, the buzzz, the colours and the surroundings which are often covered in graffiti. Having been inspired by this, they brought it back to London and have had fun working with artists such as Nuria, Stuart Haygarth, Claroscuro, Oliver Shaw, Remi Rough and Pure Evil in the several restaurants scattered around town.

Pure Evil explains:

“I was given a total free reign to do whatever I liked for the project and every time I came back and said ‘hey how about this?’ Wahaca just said ‘yeah cool go for it’. It’s a perfect situation for me, because I don’t take art direction very often and I have organised my life so i am the boss of me.  The way I was given total freedom was a real joy. I was just asked to ‘do your thing over here on this wall’ and I was left to my own devices to make the whole place look awesome. It’s like being a kid again, you just get to play.”
