Protect Your Computer with VPN

Virtual Private Network or VPN, as it is most often called.  These words sound a little ominous to those who are not computer savvy.  Many people will just go with the regular web proxy, never understanding the benefits of having their own VPN.  However, even the person with the least amount of computer program understanding can grasp the importance of a VPN.

VPN

When you log onto your computer through your own home network, you assume that you are safe from hackers or other people that will track your movements and steal your privacy.  You are not.  There are search engines that you use that will track every move you make online, even if you have firewalls.  If you connect through a Wi-Fi hotspot, your information is even more unsecure; in fact, it is being transmitted with almost no security measures at all!

Setting up a VPN on your computer hides your IP address (an address that is assigned to every computer that connects to the internet).  Once you have established a VPN, the search engines and would-be hackers are unable to track your moves.  You become invisible when you are online, your browsing history is untraceable and your searches are hidden.

There are 5 basic reasons to enable a VPN on your computer:

  1. The VPN secures your online actions.
  2. The VPN makes you anonymous
  3. The geographical blocks are bypassed when you use a VPN
  4. Unlike web proxies, the VPN automatically
  5. Encrypts all of your computer’s applications
  6. Network restrictions and censorship can be bypassed with a VPN

There are several sites that offer VPN services for free.  However, these sites often have usage problems because of the vast community that they serve.  The best, most reliable usage is often found in the pay-for-use VPN services.

You may ask yourself, “Why bother with yet another download?” especially if you are not familiar with computer technology to begin with.  The answer is simple: To automatically protect yourself from virtual danger.  If you have a VPN, your privacy and your information will be safe; all of your documents that you have on your computer will be protected from hackers.  Without a doubt, even the most inexperienced, technologically uninformed user should find getting a VPN simple and beneficial.

Your online safety is as important as your offline safety, a VPN will keep you invisible – if the hackers cannot find you, then they cannot harm you.  Having a VPN for your electronic safety should not require any second thoughts – in fact, this should be as important to you as locking your home or car doors.  Virtual Private Network, a program that every computer should have; even if you are simply using it to protect your privacy!
