Proposed Law: PM to Declare War on His Own

By Gldmeier @gldmeier
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing an amendment to the law of how the government functions. The amendment would allow the Prime Minister to declare war or begin a military operation without requiring approval from the government, and at times even without the presence and vote of all the members of the Cabinet. The amendment is being prepared to be voted into law immediately after the Knesset vacation will be over.
It seems that the purpose of this amendment is to minimize the chances of top secret information being leaked to the public and ruining the element of surprise and the effectiveness of an impending operation

I think such a law grants too much power to one person while removing the few checks and balances that are in the system. That is dangerous to society because it leaves too many opportunities for the system to be abused. There should perhaps be a method by which the Prime Minister has the ability to decide on a moment's notice without getting approval from others in an emergency situation, but that should not be the default. That should be the exception
