Prepare for Conferences with Inbound Marketing

You’ve packed plenty of business cards, and you’re ready to network at an upcoming conference. Surely, you’re prepared and set up for success, right?

Not exactly. Joshua Johnson, who advises brands on how to build their influence, recommends undertaking inbound marketing initiatives ahead of the conference to maximize your time and investment.

Here are three of his top tips:

  • Join the pre-conference conversation. Most conference organizers use a hashtag to organize dialog and connect attendees before an event. By getting involved in these online conversations, you can make some great connections, set up meetings and court potential clients — all before the conference even starts.
  • Write a pre-conference blog post or article. Writing about a topic associated with the conference you’re attending is a great way to prep. You’ll become up to date on trends, which you can document in your written piece and share with fellow conference attendees to break the ice. Make sure to syndicate your work over your social media channels and use the conference hashtag to gain visibility.
  • Take a look into your inbound leads and contacts. Maximize your time at conferences by identifying leads in your database who reside in the host city or area. Before the conference, call them and ask to meet for coffee. This casual invitation goes a long way toward building trustful relationships with those inbound leads.
