Porches ‘Car’ Is Perfect Sulk-Pop [Stream]

Porches makes music that gently calls to mind the times you felt bittersweet, potentially stoned and, quite possibly, all alone.  The newest track, “Car,” gets you from point A to B without all the bells and whistles. It’s safe and sturdy with a simple verse-chorus form and a couple instrumental pit stops along the way. Singer Aaron Maine’s voice prevents the song from idling or becoming a mere mechanism. His timbre vibrates in such a way that fractures the subtler, glassier synths that tip-toe around the eggshell structures of the songs on Pool. Perhaps it’s flutter kicks, the jackknife, or just sculling along that slips your socks off – in any case, nothing is standing in the way of calling this “Sulk-Pop.”
