Poppy Seed Strudel

This adorable Poppy Seed Strudel I have made on my son’s request today. He was very happy

:-)
I was too
:-)
This is a roll cake that you should try to make at least once in your life… It’s not hard to make but you must follow the recipe step by step in order to make a strudel soft, airy and without cracks. I won’t say that mine is crackless but I gave my best
:-)

Poppy Seed Strudel

Ingredients for the dough

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of warm milk
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • 2 tsp of yeast
  • 1/2 cup of oil

Method

Put the yeast, a little flour, sugar and warm milk into the bowl and stir it. Leave it to bubble

:-)
for 5 minutes and start kneading the dough by adding all the other ingredients. When the dough gets smooth leave it to rest for 30 minutes covered with kitchen cloth.

In the meantime… boil a cup of milk with 10 tbsp of sugar and add a cup of finely ground poppy seeds. That would be the filling for the strudel

Roll out the dough on the slightly floured surface and oil it a little bit (just to stick the filling to the dough). Cream the filling on the dough and roll it in. Put the strudel into the pan covered with baking paper and cream the strudel with a mix of 1/2 cup of milk and 1 tbsp of sugar. Cut thin slices of butter (1/2 cup) and put on the strudel. Leave it for 15 minutes more to rest before putting it into the oven. Bake the strudel on 400 F degrees for 15 minutes, than cut down the temperature on 375 F degrees and bake for more 10 minutes.

Cream the strudel again with sweet milk and put it back to the oven and bake for more 10 minutes. Get it out from the oven cream it once again with sweet milk and cover it with a kitchen cloth. Cut the Poppy Seed Strudel when it cools and sprinkle it with powdered sugar.

There are family members in our house who like it sweeter

:-)
